Teaching Philosophy

“Coming from a rock/pop background, I know that most students are not exclusively interested in the classical or jazz guitar. However, through my own musical education and experiences I believe I’ve found a happy medium that can lead to increased fretboard and musical understanding through the study of any genre. First and foremost my goal is to make the student love the guitar as much as I do, and that can only happen if they are playing things they enjoy.

“My instruction includes music reading and a focus on technique and correct movement. Being able to read well will only a help a student in whatever their musical endeavor; having a well developed, efficient technique will help any musician play at their fullest potential and musicality. I also stress chord chart reading, chord construction and basic music theory with students ranging from beginner to advanced. Above all, I strive to encourage personal and musical development in all students through the study of the guitar.”
