JS Bach: Sarabande, BWV 995
From an earlier recording. But this is with facebook video. Seems like the sound quality is much better.

JS Bach: Lute Suite in a-mi (orig. c-mi), BWV 995 (Christopher Davis, guitar) from Christopher Davis on Vimeo.
Recorded today as a practice run, “performing.” I’ll say this: it’s definitely different playing for a camera vs. playing for nothing. There are a few flubs. Overall I’m happy with the tempos and interpretation, I just wish the entire thing was cleaner. About three weeks until concerts, however, so it should be in good shape by then!
Three Thames guitars, one piece and one player. Trying to see how different each guitar is.
Guitar one: 2009 Cedar/Indian rosewood
Guitar two: 2007 Cedar/Brazilian rosewood
Guitar three: 2010 Double top (spruce outside, cedar inside)/Brazilian rosewood
All have the same treble strings, Galli Carbons, but different basses.
In the past week, the Classical Guitar Blog has hit a consistent 500+ RSS subscriber marker.
Thanks for reading!
I wrote another piece for guitar. I had wanted to experiment with some more “classical” forms, so I tried writing a sonata. When that turned out well, my composition teacher suggested I make it a multi-movement thing, so I did!
It’s in three movements:
I. Sonata
II. Slow
III. Rondo
And you can download it here (PDF).
Here are the Finale generated midi tracks of the piece.

Classical Musicians Chart Big on Billboard (with little sales). Who knew it only took a thousands copies to hit the number one spot for classical music. Kind of depressing.
That makes it seems that the Billboard charts for classical music are not relevant, but Proper Discord disagreed. Maybe Billboard charts are relevant in the art music world.
Some cover songs are better than the original.
The LA Times published Five Social Media Tips for Indie Musicians with wisdom from various internet rock stars.
Life’s a Pitch published two great articles this week. Maybe art music just needs a stronger, action-inspiring message. Or maybe other advertising is a bit too morbid. Completely opposite of that: it seems that art music organizations are always trying to attract younger audiences. They should just aim for new audiences. New does not mean the same thing as young.
The world has changed. Some things that were once amazing are now expected. It’s up to us to figure out how to do the things that would be considered amazing now.
